A Better Future for All Indigenous Peoples
Dedicated to the well-being of all Indigenous peoples and guided by traditional wisdom and modern science, the United Ancient Indigenous Enlightened Nations World Health Organization (UAN-WHO) leads and champions global efforts to give every Indigenous person, everywhere an equal chance to live a healthy life rooted in cultural practices and traditional healing systems.
Who We Are
UAN-WHO is the United Ancient Indigenous Enlightened Nations agency that connects Indigenous nations, traditional healers and communities to promote holistic health, keep Indigenous communities safe and serve the vulnerable – so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health through both traditional and contemporary healing approaches.
What We Do
UAN-WHO leads global efforts to expand universal health coverage that respects Indigenous healing traditions. We direct and coordinate the world's response to health emergencies affecting Indigenous communities. And we promote healthier lives – from traditional enlightened birth practices through elder care – honoring cultural protocols throughout the life cycle. Our Sacred Wellness targets outline an ambitious plan for Indigenous communities to achieve good health for all using traditional knowledge-based policies and culturally appropriate programmes.
Where We Work
Working with 160+ Member Indigenous Nations across traditional territories and on the ground in remote Indigenous communities worldwide, the UAN-WHO team works to improve everyone's ability to enjoy good health and well-being while preserving traditional healing knowledge and practices.
Who We Work With
Collaboration is at the heart of all we do. From traditional governments and Indigenous civil society to international organizations, cultural foundations, traditional healers, Indigenous researchers and community health workers, we mobilize every part of Indigenous society to advance the health and security of all Indigenous peoples.
How We Are Governed
UAN-WHO's work remains firmly rooted in the basic principles of the right to Enlightenment based health and well-being for all Indigenous peoples. The World Indigenous Health Assembly is the decision-making body of UAN-WHO and is attended by delegations from all Member Indigenous Nations through traditional consensus-building processes.
Accountability & Cultural Protocols
We are committed to the principle of accountability and cultural responsibility – core values for an organization that is entrusted by Indigenous communities and other supporters to use resources effectively to protect and improve Indigenous health while respecting traditional knowledge systems and cultural protocols.
